About the Artist
Glenda W. Crawford
"At the still point of the turning world, the dance is." T.S. Eliot
Glenda Ward Crawford began formal training in 2013 through study with artists Laine Francis, Helen Farson, Andy Braitman, Connie Winters, Allison Chambers, and others in the art community of central North Carolina. Her learning has been enriched through plein air study in Provence with artist Jill Steenhuis and in Tuscany with artist, Jennifer McChristian.
Crawford's style is soft impressionism that combines brush and palette knife on linen canvas. The colors are feathery and playful as they dance, capture light, and reflect movement.
Inspired by the work of Atlanta artist, Nancy Franke, Crawford enjoys painting informal portraits of children. Piper, Quinn, Neil and Madeline, her grandchildren, remain her favorite subjects.
Professor Emerita with Elon University, Crawford is a native of Burlington. At Elon she was honored as the 2011 North Carolina Professor of the Year, awarded by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for Extraordinary Dedication to Undergraduate Teaching. She is also recipient of the Elon Medallion.
Crawford’s favorite poet is T. S Eliot. According to Crawford, "When I am painting in my studio, time stands still and the dance is."
