Tyler White O’Brien Gallery (307 State Street, Greensboro, NC) is having its second Art Appreciation Show (SASSY!) on Friday, July 24. This show features people who have taken painting workshops, supported lunch & learns and other programs that the gallery hosts. Gallery owner Kathy Love selected my painting, Helen's Sunflowers, to be exhibited! Since many of my recent paintings are of my grandchildren and not for sale, my choices for submission were limited. Like many artists, I also form emotional attachments with my paintings. The sunflowers were painted from a still life in a workshop taught by the accomplished artist and my dear friend, Helen Farson. I have used it to demonstrate color theory in art lessons with young students. It also was hung in my hallway, greeting me with bright color each morning! With mixed emotions, I priced and left the painting, and Kathy commented, “baby steps.”
I do want to paint to sell and hope to have some work commissioned. I prefer to paint children in informal settings, at play, sleeping, running on the beach, "helping daddy." In the meantime I will continue to study and learn! In August I am going with three friends to take a three-day workshop with Connie Winter in Banner Elk, NC. In September I have plan to study with Alice Williams in Provence. Maybe by the third Art Appreciation Show Tyler White O’Brien Gallery, I will have more than one painting to show!
