“H” (aka Helen) was a rescue kitten who was found with her sister Tiger inside one of the broken windows at the Helen Sugg Cattery in Snow Hill, NC. A week or so old, the kittens were bottle fed for the first several days until they were able to eat solid food. “H”s eyes were closed with infection and the veterinarian feared she would be blind. Although she doesn’t have perfect vision in one eye, she survived. Tiger did not. My friend Horace agreed to care for “H” temporarily. Ten years later “H” is still with him and Horace has become a cat lover.
I think cat lovers are a special group of people. First of all, they are gregarious individuals who are companionable by nature. Cats demand in no uncertain terms one’s personal attention, whether it’s a jump onto a lap or into the middle of the Sunday edition. Secondly, cat lovers have a good sense of humor. The occasional “gift” of a vole on the back doorstep or even a tiny garden snake calls for a smile and a friendly thank you. Cat lovers also are committed persons. The responsibility of sheltering a cat is a serious and ongoing endeavor that requires regular attention to daily routines and timely health care. Lastly, cat lovers are generous folk who freely share their affection and bring appreciative purrs from their small furry companions.
Cat lovers are special people. Wouldn’t you agree “H”?
