Janice's Angel
Janice, my good friend and neighbor, is a passionate advocate for cats and their well-being. She supports Sparkle Cat Rescue’s effort to spay and neuter local stray cats and to find permanent homes for fostered ones. A few years ago, Janice started feeding a feral yellow cat who appeared on her patio. When she headed for a beach weekend, she asked cat sitter, Linda Cobb, to continue to put out food. When Janice returned, Linda remarked, “I don’t think you have just one yellow cat in the bushes. I think you have two.” Thus began Janice’s challenge to befriend Yellow Kitty One and Yellow Kitty Two. Her patience paid off and she was able to put them in carriers for a trip to Town & County. Consequently, both became indoor pets. Last year, sadly for Janice and husband Jim, Yellow Kitty Two developed a fatal heart condition.
After seeing Serafina, Janice commissioned me to paint her own angel to hang over the poster bed in the guest bedroom. Since we both had lost yellow cats, we decided to paint this angel holding one. As before, the freedom of the palette knife was liberating and joyful, the spring colors of green, blue, yellow and pink blending in composition. She is petite like her new owner and will soon have a name.
After losing Charlie and Lynx so recently, I was unsure about adopting; however, Janice encouraged me to visit a pair of five-month old male and female siblings fostered by Sparkle Cat. Alexander (Alex) and Annie have now found a home with me on Forestdale Drive. Two more yellow cats have made their way to the Kernodle patio, and one of them has come indoors to visit with Yellow Kitty One and Rosie. We’ll see what happens!
How is your heart? Mine is thankful for friends who care and for new beginnings.
