An Angel for Nan
Fortunately, there are special people who help us deal with the challenges life sends our way. Nan is one of these gifted individuals. Amazingly brilliant, kind-hearted, engaging and insightful, she has been a steadfast presence for me for many years. In an earlier blog, Thresholds, I referenced Irish author John O’Donohue’s concept of “thresholds” to describe the “frontiers” that both divide and connect the experiences of our lives (To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings, Convergent Books, 2008, p. 48). Some thresholds are natural progressions while others are unanticipated, such as loss or death. Nan’s guidance has helped me navigate the thresholds along my personal journey and to muster the courage to cross into new territories. It hasn’t been easy to step into unchartered spaces but gratefully, I haven't had to step alone.
Nan has been guardian of my dreams and fears, consistently acknowledging my strengths and insisting that I believe in and value who I am and what I have to give. She has helped me recognize that thresholds, at times daunting, are opportunities for growth and new adventure. Life has continuity that may not be readily apparent and we must trust in the dance of its unfolding.
I wanted Nan to have an angel for many reasons. She has been my advocate and cheerleader and I sincerely appreciate her professional wisdom and faithful friendship.
An angel for Nan. My heart is indeed blessed and joyful.
